Philip Hahn inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor

COLUMBUS – The 21st annual induction ceremony for The Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor Class of 2020 scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Statehouse has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 situation. We are planning smaller regional ceremonies to honor our inductees.

In the local ceremony in Elyria, Ohio on October 14, 2020, the Ohio Military Hall of fame is honoring Mr. Philip E. Hahn, United States Marine Corps. According to Mr. Hahn’s Citation for heroic achievement (Bronze Star with “V” device) in connection with operations against the enemy in Korea while serving with a Marine Infantry unit, then Private First Class Philip Hahn “displayed outstanding skill, courage and confidence in the performance of his duties while deployed as a rocket launcher gunner on March 15, 1951.

His unit assaulted a strong, well-entrenched enemy and was pinned down by accurate fire from a concealed enemy mortar position. Though subjected to direct enemy small arms, mortar and machine gun fire, he fearlessly moved forward to an exposed position in order to locate and destroy the mortar emplacement. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he remained in the exposed position directing the effective fire of his rocket launcher on the enemy mortar emplacement until it was completely neutralized. Private First Class Hahn’s courageous actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”

This year’s class of 30 will bring the total number of Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor inductees to 422, of whom eleven were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

The Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor was established in 2000 to recognize Ohio servicemen and women who were decorated for heroism while in combat situations.
