$3M in CARES Act dollars available for Posts to implement COVID-19 safety measures
A measure was passed by the Controlling Board at the state legislature on Monday which allocates $3 million in CARES Act dollars in the form of grants to AMVETS posts for COVID safety protocols and procedures.
This new appropriation will be used to provide a $5,000 grant to congressionally chartered veterans service organizations in Ohio with an active post location. The funding will be used to assist these posts in operating safely during the COVID-19 public health emergency, including supporting increased sanitation costs, maintaining social distancing, purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE), and other necessary costs to comply with public health orders, local health department recommendations, and best practices. Below you will find a link to the exact language.
The program will be administered by the Office of Budget and Management (OBM) and they are currently working on their protocols for application and discernment of the grants. OBM will be distributing their policies as soon as they are set in place.
The Controlling Board also authorized a one-time $1 million expenditure to the Ohio Veterans Homes to help mitigate the many millions in expenses incurred by both facilities in Sandusky and Georgetown during this unprecedented time.
