In Memoriam: Col. Daniel Snyder
Col. Daniel M. Snyder, a life member and contributor to the AMVETS Department of Ohio Constitution and By-Laws, passed away on 30 August 2019.
The youngest of three children, Col. Snyder graduated from Ada High School in 1953. He then attended Wooster college for two years before transferring to The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in political science in 1956 as well as a law degree from the OSU College of Law in 1958.
In 1957 Col. Snyder married Mary Snyder. Mary passed away in 2008 and he then married Barbara McCrory and together they have four children and 10 grandchildren.
Col. Snyder entered military service on April 18th 1959 enlisting in the Ohio Army National guard as a private. He rose to the rank of Sergeant E-5 before entering Officer Candidate school. He graduated from the Ohio Military academy and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in 1963. He served as a rifle platoon leader, Company commander. He served as the inspector general of the 237th support battalion, Battalion commander of the 166th infantry battalion and Operation officer for detachment 4 Ohio State area command. He was promoted to full Colonel on January 29th 1988.
Col. Snyder retired in 1993 as the Special affairs officer for the adjutant General of the State of Ohio. He was honorably discharged on August 25th 1995.
Colonel Snyder’s military awards include the Badge of Merit, Basic Training ribbon, Faithful service ribbon, Ohio special service ribbon with 30 year device. He is also the recipient of the Ohio Commendation Medal,
Col. Snyder is a Life member of AMVETS Post 21 in Findlay.
CIVIC AFFILIATIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS:
Dan has served as President of the Ohio National Guard Officers Association.
Is a Life Member of AMVETS Post 21 where he served as Post Commander, Department Judge Advocate and National Judge Advocate for many years.
President ofthe Findlay/Hancock County Bar Association.
President of the Hancock County Ohio State Alumni Association.
President of the Findlay Optimists Club.
Board member of the Findlay/Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.
He is currently a member of the Findlay Civil Service Commission in which he has served for over 40 Years.
Has served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Hancock County Law Library Association for over 40 Years.
A Life member of the Eagle Scout Association
A life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association.
AMVETS, VFW (over 50 Years) Moose and American Legion.
AMVETS awarded Dan with the prestigious AMVET OF THE YEAR AWARD In June 2011.
Was Instrumental in the formation of the Findlay/Hancock County Military Affairs Committee
Dan is a 52 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Findlay where he has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and a scout leader.
