AMVETS Book Drive Donates 2,000 Books to Columbus, Ohio Godman Guild

Students at Kent State University held a book drive ​during March to donate around 2,000 books to Ohio AMVETS. The students had 15 monitored locations for people to drop off donated books as a part of their class at Kent State.

As libraries become digital and new editions of books outdate the old ones, it was difficult to find a home for the books. Since Ohio AMVETS priority is, of course, Veterans, they contacted Ohio Veterans Homes, AMVETS Posts, VA facilities, and even Grafton Prison, the location of one of AMVETS more colorful posts.

It was by chance that Exective Director Regis Grimm found an organization in need of books for their community library. The Godman Guild in Columbus, Ohio promotes strong families and communities in the Near Northside.

​Ohio AMVETS coordinated with Kent State student Megan Wagner to pickup the donated books in Akron, Ohio, to be transported to the Godman Guild.

Once they were loaded up, AMVETS staff transported the books back down to the Godman Guild in Columbus, where Jason Phillips and Brandi Grayson of the Godman Guild assisted in unloading the books and placing them into the library.

Many of the books at the Godman Guild library were outdated. The book donation from Kent State Students and Ohio AMVETS helped them replace many of the old books with reference books, Encyclopedias, fiction and nonfiction books, and children's books.
