95-year-old veteran gets bumped to the top of Chevy Corvette waiting list
World War II veteran Bobbie Carson has been a Corvette enthusiast for years. According to a Fox News report, Carson served as an Army infantryman in the 42nd Rainbow Division when he was 18 years old. During his service, his division aided in flushing out SS troops in Germany to liberate Munich in the war's closing days.
After Carson's time serving in WWII, he pursued a career in the process engineering industry, which took him around the world. Carson developed a passion for Corvettes through his travels and his career. He owned seven Corvettes and noted that the cars weren't really for himself; he bought them for his wife, Jeanne, who recently passed away after 76 years of marriage.
For years, the 95-year-old veteran has been a member of his local Corvette Club in Lebanon, Missouri. Carson was disappointed to discover his eighth Corvette, a 2022 Arctic White Stingray's production would be severely postponed due to Covid-19 delays. When Carson's friends and a local dealership contacted General Motors, they began pushing to get Carson moved to the top of the waitlist. Chevy was able to secure a build slot for Carson on September 6th, 2021.
Typical wait times for the 2022 Stingray can extend up to two years. Carson only waited 30 days. Carson said he was "honored" by Chevy's gesture and picked up his Arctic White Stingray 3LT with Adrenaline Red interior at the National Corvette Museum on October 1st, 2021. "I think it's the greatest car I've ever driven," Carson said.
