Old
Glory’s Journey of Remembrance
AMVETS and the White House Commission on Remembrance continue to
follow Old Glory on its journey across the country.
Old Glory’s Journey of Remembrance commenced on December 7, Pearl
Harbor Day, when the flag was flown over the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii.
Since that day, Old Glory has traveled to seven historic sites around the United
States, with 18 sites remaining in the journey.
Old Glory’s journey is a countdown to the
National Moment of Remembrance, which
will take place at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, when the flag flies over the US
Capitol in Washington.
AMVETS has been working with the White House Commission to ensure
that the flag is properly honored at every stop along the journey.
The journey has already made stops at many notable battlefields and
national cemeteries. Old Glory’s journey will also take it to such noteworthy
historical sites as Gettysburg, Appomattox Courthouse, Fort McHenry, Valley
Forge, Chalmette, and the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery,
prior to the Capitol.
